The latest report on men and women in India reveals a growing presence of women entrepreneurs in the country. According to the data, 20.5% of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and 47.6% of start-ups are led by women. This marks a significant increase in women’s participation in business and entrepreneurship.
However, despite this growth, women remain underrepresented in senior managerial positions. The report shows that women hold only 7.62 lakh positions in the board of directors, compared to 19.75 lakh men. Similarly, women occupy only 34,879 senior management positions, compared to 1.86 lakh men. This highlights the need for continued efforts towards gender equality in the business sector.
The report also notes that women-owned businesses contribute significantly to employment and turnover. They generate 18.73% of employment and 10.22% of turnover, indicating a substantial impact on the economy. As the number of women entrepreneurs continues to rise, it is essential to address the existing gender gaps and create a more inclusive business environment.
