A fresh application has been filed in the Supreme Court, urging the top court to ensure that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) completes its investigation into the Adani Group within the specified three-month deadline. The plea, filed by Advocate Vishal Tiwari, emphasizes the need for transparency in the investigation process.
Tiwari’s application references a new report by Hindenburg Research, which alleges that SEBI’s Chairperson, Madhabi Puri Buch, and her husband have financial interests in offshore funds connected to the Adani Group’s alleged money laundering activities. Although Buch has dismissed the allegations as baseless, Tiwari argues that the claims have created an atmosphere of doubt among investors and the public.
The plea seeks compliance with the Supreme Court’s January 3 order, which directed SEBI to complete its investigations within three months. Tiwari stresses that the specified deadline should not be interpreted as open-ended and that transparency is crucial for investors who suffered losses following the release of the Hindenburg report.
