Samir Modi, a director at Godfrey Phillips India, was ousted from the board after failing to secure reappointment. A Delhi court had earlier ruled that Modi must follow the due process of reappointment as prescribed by law, overturning an interim protection that had temporarily prevented his removal. The company has appointed Charu Modi, another child of late KK Modi, to the board in place of Samir Modi.
The removal of Samir Modi comes amid a bitter dispute with his mother, Bina Modi, over the distribution of the family inheritance. Samir and his brother Lalit Modi contend that Bina is not adhering to the trust deed laid down by their late father.
