The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has ventured into helicopter financing by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus Helicopters. This collaboration, signed on May 20, aims to provide financing exclusively for the purchase of Airbus helicopters in India. Rahul Priyadarshi, Chief General Manager of SIDBI, and Sunny Guglani, Head of Airbus Helicopters, India and South Asia, signed the MoU.
Under the agreement, both SIDBI and Airbus Helicopters will identify potential civil helicopter operators in India interested in financing options for purchasing Airbus helicopters. Airbus will offer technical knowledge, while SIDBI will evaluate and finance these prospects exclusively for Airbus. This partnership marks SIDBI’s entry into helicopter financing, supporting the financial needs of India’s growing rotary wing sector.
Rahul Priyadarshi highlighted that this collaboration opens new avenues for financing MSMEs involved in the helicopter segment, reflecting SIDBI’s commitment to facilitating financial support in diverse sectors. Sunny Guglani emphasized that the partnership with SIDBI aims to make civil helicopters more accessible to operators in India, further enhancing their role in nation-building initiatives.
In India, the majority of helicopters are manufactured by foreign companies, with Airbus Helicopters holding a significant market share. This collaboration is poised to boost the civil helicopter market in India, offering attractive financing solutions and supporting the growth of the rotary wing industry.
