Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called on military leaders to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum computing to gain a strategic advantage. At the 62nd National Defence College convocation ceremony, Singh highlighted the changing nature of warfare, where cyber, space, and information warfare are as critical as conventional operations [1).
Singh emphasized the need for military leaders to think critically and adapt to technological advancements. He cautioned that modern-day threats extend beyond traditional battlefields, including cyber-attacks, disinformation, and economic warfare. Singh stressed the importance of understanding AI’s potential and limitations in military operations and decision-making.
The Defence Minister also highlighted the need for continuous education, urging the National Defence College to introduce short-term, online modules. He emphasized the role of academic institutions in equipping military leaders with knowledge to navigate ethical dilemmas and complex geopolitical landscapes.
Singh congratulated the officers awarded MPhil degrees, noting shared challenges would strengthen regional security and cooperation. He emphasized, “From drones to AI and quantum computing, technologies shaping modern warfare are evolving rapidly. Defence leaders must integrate advancements while maintaining a moral and ethical framework.”
