IIT students facing challenges in placements, offered annual salaries below Rs 10 lakh this season.

  • IIT students facing challenges in placements, offered annual salaries below Rs 10 lakh this season.
  • Companies hiring fewer students, forcing colleges to reach out to more organizations.
  • Economic slowdown, reduced participation of companies, and AI impact cited as reasons for decreased job offers.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) students are encountering difficulties in securing placements this season, with reported annual salaries dipping below Rs 10 lakh. Companies that typically hire several students are now only picking one or two, prompting colleges to expand their outreach to more organizations. Placement offices are actively engaging with NGOs, job portals, and providing guidance to students in their final year.

The global economic slowdown, along with reduced participation of companies and the impact of AI, has contributed to the decline in job opportunities for IIT students. Some companies have offered salaries as low as Rs 60,000-80,000, further exacerbating the situation. Additionally, the absence of prominent companies like FAANG has added to the challenges faced by students seeking employment.

Despite efforts from placement offices and students actively seeking opportunities through job portals and attending job fairs, a significant portion of IIT students, particularly those in BTech+dual degree programs, are yet to secure offers. However, there are still some companies offering competitive salaries, providing a ray of hope for students amidst the placement woes.
