Apple recently introduced Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI features for its devices, at its WWDC 2024 event. While the features are currently available for free across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that they may not remain free forever. According to Gurman, Apple plans to separate Apple Intelligence into two tiers: a free version with limited features and a paid version, Apple Intelligence+, with the full suite of AI features.
The paid version is expected to offer more features and functionality across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple is likely to generate more revenue from these paid services than from device sales, making Apple Intelligence a key focus area for the tech giant. Additionally, Apple plans to cut subscription revenue from every AI partner that integrates into its devices.
Apple Intelligence offers various features, including prioritizing notifications, summarizing writing tools, generating images, and taking actions on behalf of the user. The feature will be available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as the upcoming iPhone 16 series, Mac, and iPad with M-series chip. Apple is also planning to bring AI to its Vision Pro mixed reality headset, but the rollout is not expected soon due to the challenge of rethinking features for mixed reality.
