RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has paid homage to Ratan Tata, describing him as a towering figure in Indian industry and a true visionary ¹. Das praised Tata’s significant role in shaping a self-reliant India and acknowledged his immense contributions to India’s economic growth and industry. Tata, who passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 86, was chairman emeritus of Tata Sons.

He noted that Tata’s achievements would require an entire volume to describe when the economic history of modern India is written. Tata’s leadership transformed the Tata Group, expanding its operations into various industries such as coffee, cars, salt, software, steel, power, and airlines.
The Tata Group, under Ratan Tata’s leadership, acquired notable British companies like steelmaker Corus and luxury car brand Jaguar Land Rover. Recently, the group ventured into chip manufacturing and iPhone assembly, launching India’s first super app. In the last fiscal year, the group reported revenues of USD 165 billion.
