  • Michael Dell announced the Dell AI Factory, utilizing NVIDIA GPUs to power xAI’s Grok model.
  • Elon Musk’s xAI requires thousands of NVIDIA GPUs for training advanced AI models.
  • The new AI factory aims to support future AI development with massive computational power.

Michael Dell, CEO and chairman of Dell Technologies, has announced the creation of the Dell AI Factory. This new initiative will utilize NVIDIA GPUs to enhance the capabilities of Grok, the AI model developed by Elon Musk’s company, xAI. Elon Musk has significantly invested in computational resources, acquiring tens of thousands of GPUs for xAI.

In 2023, training the Grok 2 model required around 20,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. For the Grok 3 model and future iterations, Musk anticipates needing approximately 100,000 NVIDIA H100 chips. This ambitious project may involve collaboration with Oracle to create a supercomputer that would be four times larger than the largest existing GPU clusters, aiming to be operational by fall 2025.

xAI introduced its first-generation multimodal model, Grok-1.5V, in April 2023, which features strong text capabilities and can process various visual information. Meanwhile, Meta AI has also made significant investments, acquiring $30 billion worth of NVIDIA GPUs to train their AI models, highlighting the growing demand for powerful computational resources in AI development.
