The report highlights a significant increase in generative AI activity, with India ranking second globally in public generative AI projects. Contributions to AI-driven projects grew by 79% over the past year. India’s open-source contributions have also driven societal projects, addressing specific challenges like healthcare access.
GitHub’s adoption among young developers in India has been fueled by the National Education Policy, which mandates coding and AI skills in schools. India now ranks second globally for GitHub Education users. With GitHub being one of India’s most in-demand skills, it’s clear that coding education is becoming increasingly important.
Looking ahead, GitHub forecasts that India will surpass the US as the largest developer community by 2028.
