Clean Electric, an Indian battery technology innovator, has unveiled a groundbreaking development in EV charging technology—a battery that can fully charge electric vehicles in less than 12 minutes. This achievement represents a significant leap from the typical 1-2 hour charging times currently standard in the industry.
The key to this rapid charging capability lies in Clean Electric’s advanced battery architectures, including DCLC (Direct Contact Liquid Cooling), SCALC, and CTP. These innovations not only facilitate faster charging but also manage heat effectively to prevent thermal runaway and ensure the battery’s longevity. Akash Gupta, Co-Founder at Clean Electric, highlighted their STM (Smart Temperature Modulation) algorithm, which optimizes charging currents and temperatures to mitigate degradation.
Safety is paramount in such high-speed charging scenarios, and Clean Electric addresses this with multiple layers of safety features. These include direct contact active liquid cooling and a robust BMS (Battery Management System) architecture similar to that used in aviation, ensuring the battery remains cool and safe even during rapid charging.
In testing, Clean Electric demonstrated only an 11% degradation after 3700 rapid charge cycles, setting a new benchmark for battery durability in the EV industry. Looking ahead, the company plans to scale up production to meet increasing demand across various EV segments, aiming to make rapid charging accessible and cost-effective for electric vehicle owners globally.
