Google has revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) now generates over 25% of its new software code. This shift towards AI-generated code is part of Google’s growth strategy, according to CEO Sundar Pichai. During the company’s Q3 2024 earnings call, Pichai highlighted AI’s crucial role in driving innovation across Google’s products.
Google’s increasing reliance on AI has contributed to significant revenue growth. The company reported $88.3 billion in revenue for Q3 2024, with Google Services generating $76.5 billion and Google Cloud achieving $11.4 billion. The company’s operating income also saw substantial growth, with Google Services reporting $30.9 billion and Google Cloud reaching $1.95 billion.
Google’s AI efforts are expanding across various products, including Search, Cloud, and consumer offerings. New AI-powered tools have been introduced to enhance search capabilities, provide personalized interactions, and simplify tasks. For example, YouTube creators now have access to generative AI tools for video summaries and titles, while Google Meet features AI-powered note-taking.
Despite these advancements, Google faces regulatory challenges. The US Department of Justice has labeled Google a monopoly in search and ad markets, with the case progressing to its remedies phase. However, Google’s continued innovation and investment in AI demonstrate its commitment to driving technological progress.
