Ratan Tata, the late Indian industrialist and philanthropist, has left behind a legacy of generosity and care in his will. His estimated ₹10,000 crore estate will mostly go to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF), a non-profit organization he established in 2022.
Tata’s will ensures that his wealth is distributed not only among his family members, including his brother and half-sisters, but also among his loyal household staff. His cook, Rajan Shaw, and butler, Subbiah, who served him for decades, are also beneficiaries. Additionally, Tata’s executive assistant, Shantanu Naidu, has been forgiven a personal loan and granted a stake in his companionship venture.
The RTEF, led by Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, will continue Tata’s philanthropic work. The foundation has already made strategic investments in Tata Technologies and Tata Digital. With Tata’s estate, RTEF’s charitable initiatives are expected to significantly increase.
Tata’s love for animals is also evident in his will, as he has made provisions for the lifelong care of his German shepherd, Tito. His collection of luxury cars, iconic beach bungalow and Mumbai residence are also part of the estate, awaiting assignment.
