Cuts are part of restructuring to align with long-term goals.

Meta has reduced workforce since 2022, with 21,000 jobs cut.
Meta has begun laying off employees across various divisions, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs. Unlike previous company-wide layoffs, these cuts seem focused on restructuring specific teams. Some affected employees, like Jane Manchun Wong, have publicly shared news of their layoffs.
According to Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold, the company is reallocating resources to align with its long-term goals. This includes moving teams and shifting employees to different roles. Arnold emphasized that Meta works hard to find new opportunities for impacted employees when a role is eliminated.
These layoffs follow earlier cuts in Meta’s Reality Labs division this year. Since 2022, Meta has been reducing its workforce, starting with 11,000 layoffs due to overestimated growth after the pandemic. In 2023, another 10,000 jobs were cut under CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “year of efficiency” plan. The total job cuts since 2022 now stand at 21,000.
The layoffs reflect Meta’s efforts to adapt to changing market conditions and prioritize its goals. As the tech industry continues to evolve, companies like Meta are reassessing their workforce and resources to remain competitive.
Still trying to process this but my role at Meta has been impacted. Thank you to everyone for my wild journey at Meta
