Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has revealed that he won’t be returning as a judge on Shark Tank India due to a sponsorship deal between the show and Swiggy, Zomato’s arch-rival.
Goyal shared his experience on the show, saying he aimed to change the narrative and provide candid feedback. However, Swiggy’s reported Rs 25 crore sponsorship deal has ended his stint as a judge and investor.
Goyal also discussed Zomato’s rivalry with Swiggy, recalling the 2018 funding round where Swiggy raised $1 billion, while Zomato had just $35 million. Despite this, Goyal remains focused on Zomato’s growth.
The quick commerce sector has grown to $5.5 billion in four years, with Zomato and Swiggy competing fiercely. Kunal Bahl, Snapdeal co-founder, joins Shark Tank India as a new judge.
