Game Theory, a Bengaluru-based sports tech startup, has secured funding from badminton legend Pullela Gopichand and other sporting personalities. The funding is part of the startup’s ‘Masters’ round, which aims to bring in experienced athletes as investors. Gopichand, along with squash player Saurav Ghosal and table tennis player Sharath Kamal, has made a substantial financial investment in the startup.
The funding will be used to advance athletes from foundational skills to elite competitive levels by leveraging cutting-edge technologies into training. Game Theory integrates its technology stack with sports education to create a more focused, personal, and habit-forming experience for training and casual play. The startup’s approach includes combining computer vision-driven analytics, artificial intelligence-powered performance tracking, and real-time feedback to identify talent early and enhance training outcomes specific to each person.
Gopichand, who played a key role in establishing sports analytics startup Matchday AI, which was acquired by Game Theory in November 2023, believes that a strong grassroots program is necessary to generate a large talent pool for the future. With Game Theory’s technology, he hopes to contribute to building a robust sports ecosystem that nurtures talent from the grassroots level.
