  • A new blood test, PrecivityAD2, has been shown to be 90% accurate in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease in people with cognitive symptoms.
  • The test measures two ratios in a blood sample: phosphorylated-tau217 and amyloid-beta proteins, which are hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Early diagnosis is crucial for timely intervention and better patient outcomes, and this test offers a less invasive and cost-effective alternative to current methods.

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has found that a new blood test, PrecivityAD2, can diagnose Alzheimer’s disease with 90% accuracy. This breakthrough could lead to earlier intervention and better patient outcomes. The test measures two ratios in a blood sample: phosphorylated-tau217 and amyloid-beta proteins, which are hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.
The study involved over 1,200 participants with an average age of 74 years old, and the test was found to be more accurate than specialist physicians in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease. This is a significant improvement, as early diagnosis is crucial for timely intervention and better patient outcomes.
The PrecivityAD2 test offers a less invasive and cost-effective alternative to current methods, such as cerebrospinal fluid tests and amyloid PET scans. However, experts caution that lab tests should not replace human assessment and comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations. Further studies are needed to validate the test’s accuracy in diverse populations and to compare its performance with other diagnostic methods.
