  • MapmyIndia CEO Rohan Verma calls Ola Maps a “gimmick” and questions its credibility.
  • Verma doubts Geospoc’s ability to develop a reliable map product due to financial and operational limitations.
  • Ola refutes the claims, terming them “baseless” and an attempt by MapmyIndia to stay relevant.

MapmyIndia CEO Rohan Verma has criticized Ola’s recent announcement of developing a navigational map for India, calling it a “gimmick”. Verma expressed skepticism over Ola’s claim that its map, Ola Maps, was developed by Geospoc Pvt Ltd, a startup acquired by Ola-parent ANI Technologies. He pointed out that developing a digital navigational map for a country like India requires substantial investments and expertise.
Verma also dismissed any risk to MapmyIndia’s business due to the introduction of Ola Maps, questioning the quality of Ola’s product. Ola, however, refuted the allegations, terming them “baseless” and an attempt by MapmyIndia to stay relevant. The controversy started after MapmyIndia sent a legal notice to Ola, accusing the company of breaching the terms and conditions of a license agreement signed in 2021.
The dispute highlights the competition in India’s digital navigation space. MapmyIndia has been a leading player in the market, and Ola’s entry has sparked tensions. The quality and accuracy of Ola Maps have been questioned, with Verma warning users about the risks of using unreliable maps. The controversy is expected to continue, with both companies standing firm on their claims.
