The Indian Army has received its first batch of indigenously developed “Nagastra-1” suicide drones, marking a significant advancement in India’s defense technology. These high-tech drones, created by Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries, are designed for precision strikes on enemy targets.

Nagastra-1 drones, weighing around 9 kg, are equipped with GPS-enabled guidance systems that ensure accurate targeting within a 2-meter radius. They have a range of up to 30 km and can carry a 1 kg warhead, with an upgraded version capable of delivering a 2.2 kg payload. Notably, these drones are reusable, featuring a parachute recovery mechanism for safe return if a mission is aborted.

The introduction of Nagastra-1 aligns with the global trend of adopting drone technology in modern warfare. This step further enhances India’s military capabilities, following recent moves like the deal with the US to acquire armed MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones, boosting the country’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.
