Following Donald Trump’s presidential election win, Google searches for “How to move to Canada” have seen a massive increase. According to Google Trends, searches rose by 400% on election night.
The highest search volumes originated from states that heavily supported Vice President Kamala Harris, including Vermont, Oregon, and Washington. Related search keywords, such as “moving to Canada requirements” and “moving to Canada from US,” also experienced a significant surge, with some searches increasing by over 5,000%.
Interestingly, this surge comes as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces plans to reduce permanent immigrants by 21% in 2025, from 500,000 to 395,000. Other countries, including Japan, Brazil, and Costa Rica, also saw increased searches from US citizens looking to relocate.
