  • Apple has surpassed Samsung in smartphone revenue in India, despite shipping fewer devices.
  • Apple’s average selling price (ASP) and strategic market expansion contributed to its revenue lead.
  • Samsung’s shipments declined by 15% year-on-year, while Apple’s shipments are expected to grow.

Apple has strengthened its position in India’s smartphone market, outpacing Samsung in revenue. According to IDC research, Apple generated $4.56 billion in revenue from selling 4.8 million iPhones in India during the first half of 2024. In contrast, Samsung shipped nearly double the volume at 9.8 million units but earned only $3.43 billion.
Apple’s success can be attributed to its high average selling prices (ASPs) and strategic market expansion. The company’s focus on premium branding and aggressive marketing has attracted consumers in the high-end market. Additionally, Apple’s local manufacturing efforts have helped boost sales.
Samsung, on the other hand, faced a decline in shipments and ASPs. The company’s newly launched Galaxy S24 struggled in the super-premium segment. As a result, Samsung’s value share in the Indian smartphone market dropped to 19.4% from 22% in 2023.
Despite Samsung’s decline, it remains the top-selling smartphone brand in India by volume. However, the company faces challenges from Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Vivo in the lower-priced segments and Apple in the premium segment. Analysts predict continued growth for Apple, with estimated shipments reaching 12.5 million units in India by year-end.
