Amit Agarwal has taken charge of Amazon India after Manish Tiwary’s sudden exit. Tiwary resigned as country head, citing an opportunity outside the company. Agarwal, who oversees India and emerging markets, will lead the Indian operations without a replacement for Tiwary.
The leadership change follows a reported power struggle between Tiwary and Agarwal. Amazon India faces challenges in the e-commerce market, with growing competition from Flipkart, Meesho, and quick commerce companies. Despite investing $6.5 billion in India, Amazon has struggled to achieve profitability.
Amazon’s focus has shifted to its cloud services business, Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is growing rapidly in India. The company has committed to investing an additional $15 billion in India by 2030, with a bulk of it going towards AWS.
