Truecaller has unveiled its latest feature, the AI Call Scanner, to combat the growing threat of voice cloning scams. This new tool is designed to detect and flag calls using synthesized voices, providing an extra layer of protection for users against sophisticated scams.

With advancements in AI technology, criminals can now easily clone voices using just a few seconds of audio, making it simple to impersonate loved ones and exploit people’s emotions. Truecaller’s AI Call Scanner aims to address this issue by analyzing and identifying unique characteristics in the caller’s voice to distinguish between genuine human speech and AI-generated imitations.

When users receive a suspicious call, they can activate the AI Call Scanner with a single tap. The feature records a short sample of the caller’s voice and uses advanced AI models to analyze it, providing near-instantaneous results. This innovative tool is initially available for Android users in the US, with plans to expand to India and other key markets soon.

Truecaller CEO and Co-founder Alan Mamedi emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “The risks of AI voice scams are increasing at an alarming rate. We knew we had to act swiftly and decisively to stay ahead of this emerging threat.” The company also plans to release an iOS version and explore potential integrations with other platforms and communication tools.
