  • The allegations lack direct evidence, with no mention of who was bribed or any Adani official’s involvement.
  • Adani Group dismisses bribery claims as baseless, emphasizing no violations of Indian or US laws.

Senior lawyers Mukul Rohatgi and Mahesh Jethmalani have defended Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani against bribery allegations in a US Department of Justice (DOJ) indictment. They clarified that the Adanis are not named in key charges of bribery or obstruction of justice and dismissed the accusations as speculative and lacking evidence.

Rohatgi highlighted that the DOJ’s indictment does not identify who was bribed or provide any evidence of the Adani Group’s involvement. He stated, “I can’t see a single name, in which manner they were bribed, or which department they belong to.”

Jethmalani added that the allegations involve inferences, not proof, and do not cite any violations of Indian law. The Adani Group also refuted the claims, emphasizing its commitment to legal recourse.

The DOJ charges are directed at executives from Azure Power Global Ltd. and CDPQ, not the Adanis. The case focuses on alleged violations of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by these entities.
