- Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav said the state is examining related files to decide on possible action.
- Allegations claim $228 million in bribes were paid to influence state electricity deals.
The Andhra Pradesh government is reviewing a solar power contract with the Adani Group after US authorities indicted its founder, Gautam Adani, on bribery charges. Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav confirmed on Monday that officials are examining files related to the deal, which secured approximately seven gigawatts of solar power for the state.
The US indictment alleges that Adani and others paid $265 million in bribes between 2021 and 2022, with $228 million reportedly influencing Andhra Pradesh’s electricity distribution companies. Minister Keshav stated the government is exploring whether it can cancel the contract.
The Adani Group has denied the allegations, calling them baseless, and the YSR Congress Party, which governed during the deal, also denied wrongdoing. The charges have already impacted the Adani Group’s shares and prompted TotalEnergies to pause further investments in the company.
