  • X (Twitter) has been banned in Brazil due to non-compliance with court orders and outstanding fines.
  • The ban was ordered by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, citing disinformation and non-compliance.
  • X’s owner, Elon Musk, has criticized the decision, stating it’s an attack on free speech.

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has been banned in Brazil after failing to meet a deadline set by the Supreme Court. The court ordered the suspension of the platform until it complies with court orders and pays outstanding fines related to disinformation.
The controversy began in April when several X accounts were accused of disseminating disinformation. X’s owner, Elon Musk, has criticized the decision, stating it’s an attack on free speech. Despite this, Brazil’s telecommunications agency has confirmed it is proceeding with the suspension of X.
The ban will remain in effect until X appoints a new legal representative in Brazil and settles fines for violating local laws. This is not the first time a social media platform has faced scrutiny in Brazil, with Telegram and WhatsApp facing similar bans in the past.
