Policy aims to enforce return-to-office mandate, following industry trend.
Wipro, the Indian IT giant, has introduced a new policy requiring employees to attend the office at least three days a week. The company has tied office attendance directly to leave management, stating that leaves will be deducted for any deviation from the policy.
In an internal email, Wipro directed employees to cancel existing work-from-home approvals and adhere to the updated work-from-office (WFO) policy. The policy is reportedly project-specific, but its implementation marks a significant shift towards enforcing return-to-office culture.
Wipro’s move follows a growing trend in the Indian IT sector. Other companies, such as LTIMindtree and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), have introduced similar policies. LTIMindtree requires four days of office attendance, while TCS links variable pay to five-day office attendance. Infosys has also implemented a three-day attendance rule.
The return-to-office push aims to revive office culture and collaboration amidst evolving hybrid work arrangements. Wipro’s policy may impact employee flexibility, but the company seeks to balance work-from-home benefits with in-person interactions and team engagement. The move will likely influence other companies in the sector to reassess their work policies.
