Warner Bros Discovery is betting big on the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux in India, hoping to repeat its 2023 box office success. The company’s 2023 box office run in India saw a 100% growth from the previous year, with the first Joker film being the highest-grossing movie at Rs 67 crore. Managing Director (South Asia) Arjun Nohwar expects the momentum to continue in the second half of the year, with Joker 2 being a major release.
The company is also exploring other opportunities in India, including TV viewing audiences and motorsports. Eurosport will air MotoGP Bharat, India’s version of MotoGP, scheduled for next March. Additionally, Warner Bros Discovery has exclusive rights to the Afghan Cricket Board for the next four years.
Warner Bros Discovery is also investing in capability centers in India, including an engineering center in Bangalore and a development center in Hyderabad. These investments will help the company grow its business in India and improve its margins.
