Vodafone Idea (Vi) has taken a significant step towards upgrading its network infrastructure by signing a $3.6 billion deal with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung. This partnership will enable Vi to enhance its 4G services and launch 5G networks in key markets.
As part of its three-year investment plan worth $6.6 billion, Vi aims to expand its 4G population coverage from 103 crore to 120 crore. The company also plans to increase its capacity to cater to growing data demands. The new equipment will not only improve network quality but also reduce energy consumption, leading to lower operating costs.
According to Akshaya Moondra, CEO of Vodafone Idea Limited, this investment marks the beginning of Vi’s transformation journey, dubbed “VIL 2.0.” The company is committed to providing its customers with the best-in-class experience and is excited to partner with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung to achieve this goal.
With the recent equity raise of Rs 24,000 crore and additional spectrum acquisition, Vi is well-positioned to execute its growth plans. The company is also in discussions with lenders to secure Rs 35,000 crore in funded and non-fund-based facilities to support its long-term capital expenditure.
