Qualcomm plans to aggressively tap India’s laptop market with Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus chipsets.
Qualcomm, a leading chipset company, is pushing for the introduction of a design-linked incentive (DLI) scheme for the smartphone industry in India. The company has large design centers in India and wants to bring mobile production and design centers closer together. This move would benefit Qualcomm significantly, as it has developed and designed chipsets for smartphones in India.
Qualcomm has been investing in India for over two decades and has launched several initiatives to promote the development of semiconductor design in the country. The company has also collaborated with major PC OEMs to launch AI PCs with its Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors. With the DLI scheme, Qualcomm aims to spread awareness about the benefits of Snapdragon chipsets in the laptop space and tap into India’s growing laptop market.
The DLI scheme, launched under the India Semiconductor Mission, aims to promote the development and deployment of semiconductor design in India. Currently, the scheme is limited to startups, but the government is evaluating a proposal to include large multinational companies like Qualcomm. If implemented, the scheme would provide incentives to companies that design chipsets in India, promoting the growth of the semiconductor industry in the country.
