The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has reported a significant increase in transactions, with a 21% rise to 12 million in July. This growth was driven by a surge in grocery orders and on-network logistics. The platform saw 4.4 million transactions in the mobility category and 7.6 million in the non-mobility category, which includes retail purchases and logistics transactions.
The grocery segment saw the most significant growth, with a 61% increase in orders to 1.4 million. Food and beverage orders also rose 21% to 1.7 million. ONDC’s network now spans over 600 cities, connecting 630,000 sellers and service providers, and delivering to over 1,200 cities nationwide.
The government-backed network aims to increase e-commerce penetration in India to 25% in the next couple of years, reaching a gross merchandise value of $48 billion. To achieve this, ONDC has been providing financial incentives to network participants, which will be reduced by up to 75% by the September quarter.
