Users warned to avoid third-party downloads and install reputable antivirus solutions to protect against Necro trojan.
Security researchers at Kaspersky have identified a new version of the Necro trojan targeting Android users through both Google Play apps and modified APKs hosted on third-party websites. This malicious software can steal sensitive data, install additional malware, and remotely execute commands on infected devices.
Two infected apps, Wuta Camera and Max Browser, were removed from the Google Play Store after Kaspersky notified Google. However, modified versions of popular apps like Spotify, WhatsApp, and Minecraft still pose a risk, as they are available on unofficial websites.
The Necro trojan can perform various malicious activities, including downloading malware, subscribing users to paid services, and stealing login credentials and financial data. To protect themselves, users should:
Avoid downloading apps from untrusted third-party sources.
Only download apps from official app stores like Google Play.
Be cautious of apps promising premium features for free.
Install a reputable mobile antivirus solution.
By taking these precautions, Android users can minimize the risk of falling victim to the Necro trojan and other mobile malware threats.
