NASA’s Crew-9 mission, aimed at rescuing astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, is scheduled to launch on September 26. However, the mission faces a potential challenge from Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is moving toward the Gulf of Mexico and Florida’s west coast.
NASA, SpaceX, and international partners have completed a Flight Readiness Review for the mission, confirming preparations for the launch. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will undergo a static fire test and final dress rehearsal on September 24.
The Crew-9 mission will transport astronauts Nick Hague, Aleksandr Gorbunov, and others to the International Space Station (ISS) for a five-month stay. They will conduct over 200 scientific experiments before returning to Earth with Williams and Wilmore, who have been stranded in space since June due to a faulty space capsule.
The launch will be streamed live online on YouTube, NASA+, and the company’s official website. Notably, Sunita Williams has taken over as commander of the ISS Expedition 72.
