NASA and Boeing are moving closer to bringing astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore back to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS). The teams are working together to ensure the Boeing Starliner’s propulsion system is reliable after leaks were found in the helium thrusters during docking.
The astronauts have been stuck at the ISS for months, extending their weekly mission. Despite the challenges, they have been busy contributing to the ISS mission, conducting tasks such as checking plumbing hardware, packing life support parts, and setting up high-definition video equipment.
NASA has not announced a return date yet, but expects to complete planning for the Starliner’s return next week. The safety of the astronauts is the top priority for both NASA and Boeing. Ground and mission support teams are conducting simulations to ensure a smooth undocking process.
