  • Boeing Starliner encountered propulsion system problems during its mission, extending its stay at the ISS.
  • NASA considers using SpaceX Crew Dragon for Starliner astronauts’ return journey.

NASA has postponed the SpaceX Crew-9 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) by a month to prioritize fixing issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. The Crew-9 launch, originally scheduled for August 18th, will now take place no earlier than September 24th.
The delay allows NASA to focus on resolving problems with the Boeing Starliner, which experienced propulsion system issues during its recent crewed test flight to the ISS. The Starliner’s extended stay at the ISS has raised concerns about its ability to safely return its crew to Earth.
NASA is considering alternative return options, including using a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule for the astronauts’ journey back. The delay adds to Boeing’s financial losses, totaling $1.6 billion since 2016, with an additional $125 million incurred due to the postponement.
