Sunita Williams, a NASA astronaut, has revealed that Tom Cruise’s Top Gun movie inspired her to become a pilot. During a visit to India in 2018, Williams shared her journey with school students, saying she wanted to fly jets after watching the film. However, she became a helicopter pilot instead.
Williams is currently in space, extending her stay due to the faulty Boeing Starliner spacecraft. She has shared insights into the effects of space travel on the human body. While NASA has mitigation methods in place, radiation remains a concern. Williams has observed fascinating physiological changes in space, including the disappearance of calluses and faster hair growth.
Despite the wonders of space travel, Williams highlighted the significant concern of bone density and muscle mass loss. To counteract this, she exercises rigorously with specialized equipment, including treadmills and exercise bikes. After landing, it takes about 24 to 48 hours for the fluid balance to normalize, allowing her to resume physical activities.
