NASA astronaut Don Pettit and Russian cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner have arrived at the International Space Station (ISS), joining veteran astronaut Sunita Williams and other crew members. The trio launched from Kazakhstan and docked with the ISS after a journey of just two orbits of Earth.
Pettit, Ovchinin, and Vagner will spend about six months in space, working on various scientific missions as part of Expedition 71 and 72. Sunita Williams, who was initially scheduled to return to Earth within a week, will now remain in space until February 2025 due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner capsule.
The ISS is currently home to 12 people, including the new arrivals and other astronauts and cosmonauts from NASA and Roscosmos. The crew will work together on various scientific experiments and missions during their time in space.
