MG Motor has taken a significant step in making electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible to Indian buyers. The company has launched the Comet Mini EV with a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh, making it one of the most affordable EVs in the market. This reduced price is part of MG’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) program.
The BaaS program separates the battery cost from the vehicle’s upfront price, allowing customers to pay for battery usage based on kilometers driven. For the Comet, battery rental rates start at Rs 2.5 per kilometer, while the ZS EV starts at Rs 4.5 per kilometer. Additionally, customers will pay approximately Rs 1 per kilometer for charging costs.
This innovative pricing model provides customers with flexibility and affordability. MG Motor also offers a 60% buyback value after three years of ownership, making the deal even more attractive. The company aims to boost EV adoption in India with this unique ownership model.
The MG Comet is a two-door urban EV with a range of 230 kilometers per charge, while the ZS EV is a 4.3-meter SUV with a range of 461 kilometers per charge. With this launch, MG Motor joins the growing Indian EV market, competing with players like Tata and BYD.
