  • Orion features advanced sensors, spatial mapping, and a see-through display for a seamless AR experience.
  • The glasses are not yet available for commercial purchase, but offer a glimpse into the future of spatial computing and the metaverse.

Meta has announced its first-ever augmented reality (AR) glasses, called Orion, at Meta Connect 2024. Unlike previous smart glasses, Orion integrates advanced AR capabilities, allowing users to engage with both their surroundings and virtual elements in a more immersive way.
Orion features multiple sensors, spatial mapping, and a see-through display to overlay digital information into the wearer’s environment. The glasses are lightweight and versatile, suitable for indoor or outdoor use, and enable hands-free interaction through voice, eye gaze, and hand tracking.
Meta’s smart assistant, Meta AI, is also integrated into Orion, providing helpful visualizations and information based on the user’s surroundings. For example, users can ask for recipe suggestions based on their refrigerator’s contents or take hands-free video calls while updating their digital calendar. While Orion is not yet available for commercial purchase, it represents a significant step towards the future of spatial computing and the metaverse.
