NASA has chosen SpaceX’s Crew Dragon to bring back astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief S Somanath has explained why India cannot lead a rescue mission for stranded astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore. In a recent podcast, Somanath acknowledged ISRO’s limitations in space rescue missions, stating that they don’t have a spacecraft capable of rescuing the astronauts.
NASA has chosen SpaceX’s Crew Dragon to bring back the astronauts, who have been stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) for over 78 days due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner. Somanath highlighted the challenges faced by Boeing’s Starliner and the importance of reliability in human spaceflight.
ISRO is currently focused on other space exploration projects, such as the Gaganyaan mission, and acknowledges that it still has some way to go before participating in complex rescue missions like the one SpaceX is undertaking.
