  • Instagram is streamlining its metrics, making “views” the primary measurement for all content formats.
  • The change aims to provide creators with a unified understanding of their content performance across Reels, Stories, photos, and more.
  • “Views” will now be the headline metric, with “sends per reach” recommended as a key indicator of content performance.

Instagram is simplifying its performance metrics by prioritizing “views” as the primary measurement for all content formats. This change, announced by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri, aims to provide creators with a more comprehensive understanding of their content performance across various formats.
Historically, Instagram showed different metrics for Reels and other posts, but this update will consolidate metrics to make it easier for creators to understand how their content is doing. Mosseri clarified that “views” and “reach” are distinct metrics, with a single user able to contribute multiple views to a piece of content.
By prioritizing views, Instagram aligns with Meta’s broader focus on views as a key performance indicator. This shift also mirrors a similar trend seen on Twitter, now rebranded as X, under Elon Musk’s leadership. The update is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
