A recent report by TeamLease Digital highlights a concerning gap in the skills of Indian engineers. Despite advancements in emerging technologies, only 5.5% of engineers possess basic programming skills, and a mere 2.5% have AI skills. This shortage has prompted 86% of Indian businesses to reskill their IT workers, focusing on areas like software development, cloud solutions, and data management.
The report also reveals salary trends in the tech industry, with AI/ML engineers commanding high salaries, ranging from Rs. 8.2 lakh to Rs. 43 lakh per annum. Data engineering roles have seen a 12.07% year-on-year salary increase, while product management professionals can expect a 10.2% rise in compensation.
The Indian tech industry is growing rapidly, with a market size of $254 billion in FY24 and a projected growth to $350 billion by 2025. However, the skills gap must be addressed to sustain this growth and ensure India remains a leader in global technological advancements.
