Boost to Innovation: 80% reduction in patent fees for startups, women entrepreneurs, and small businesses
India has taken a significant leap in modernizing its intellectual property (IP) services with the launch of two innovative tools: the AI-powered Trademark Search Technology and the IP Saarthi Chatbot. Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, introduced these tools to make trademark searches faster, more accurate, and easier for users. The new system aims to resolve trademark disputes efficiently and may soon include official Indian languages for better accessibility [1).
The IP Saarthi Chatbot is designed to guide users through the complex IP registration process, offering real-time support and guidance. This digital tool will simplify the process for first-time users. Additionally, the government has reduced patent fees by 80% for startups, women entrepreneurs, small businesses, individuals, and academic institutions to encourage innovation ¹.
These initiatives demonstrate India’s commitment to supporting businesses and promoting innovation. The government has also launched five tech-driven services, including the Trade Connect e-Platform, Jan Sunwai Portal, and BHASKAR platform, to enhance the ease of doing business. With these advancements, India aims to become a global benchmark in IP management and achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047 ¹.
