In a bid to tackle the growing problem of spam calls, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a directive to halt all unregistered promotional calls. This move aims to provide relief to frustrated mobile phone users across the country.
TRAI has instructed access providers to disconnect telecom resources allocated to unregistered telemarketers, who will be blacklisted for up to two years. To ensure effective enforcement, information on blacklisted senders must be shared among access providers within 24 hours.
Regular compliance updates must be submitted by access providers to monitor progress. This stringent approach underscores TRAI’s commitment to eradicating spam calls and protecting consumers. With this directive, TRAI expects a significant reduction in spam calls and relief for consumers.
