The Union Labour Ministry has launched an investigation into the death of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old Chartered Accountant who worked at Ernst & Young (EY) in Pune. Perayil’s mother claims that her daughter’s death was due to excessive work stress, just four months into her job.
Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the ministry has sought information from state authorities and is awaiting the report, expected within 7-10 days. The government will take action based on the findings, which will include reports from the police and post-mortem examination. The ministry will also speak with EY India.
Perayil’s death has sparked concerns about India’s work culture and the need for companies to prioritize employee well-being. EY India Chairman and Managing Director Rajiv Memani has expressed sadness over Perayil’s passing and committed to nurturing a harmonious workplace.
