Google has launched a $120 million Global AI Opportunity Fund to promote AI education and training worldwide. Announcing the initiative at the UN’s Summit of the Future, CEO Sundar Pichai shared his personal experience of growing up in India, where technology transformed his life. Pichai emphasized the need to make AI accessible to everyone, regardless of language or location.
The Global AI Opportunity Fund will focus on providing AI education in local languages, partnering with nonprofits and NGOs. The company has already made significant strides in AI, with services like Google Translate supporting 246 languages.
Pichai highlighted AI’s potential to drive economic growth, citing studies that suggest a 1.4% increase in global labor productivity and a 7% boost in GDP over the next decade. AI is already making a difference in emerging markets, optimizing operations and logistics.
