  • Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) plans to merge Disney+ Hotstar content with JioCinema to create a single, stronger streaming platform.
  • The merged platform would offer over 125,000 hours of entertainment, sports, and Hollywood content, making it India’s largest streaming service.
  • The move aims to compete with big players like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video, and is subject to regulatory approval.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is considering a major change in its streaming services. After the planned merger with Star India’s Disney+ Hotstar, RIL might focus on having just one streaming platform: JioCinema. This move aims to create a more powerful streaming service that can compete with big players in the market.
The merged platform would offer a vast library of content, including sports rights like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and content from big studios like Disney, HBO, NBCUniversal, and Paramount Global. JioCinema has already shown significant growth, especially after acquiring the digital rights to the IPL, which led to record-breaking viewership on the platform.
The merger is still waiting for approval from regulators like the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). If approved, the new platform would become India’s largest streaming service, offering an unparalleled range of content to users.
