Contactless enforcement results in nearly 9 million cases booked in 2023.
Bengaluru Traffic Police are transforming road safety with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The city’s traffic police have introduced an AI-driven system to monitor and manage traffic violations. This technology uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and processes video feeds from various sources.
The AI system currently monitors 50 junctions with 330 cameras and will expand to cover more areas. Joint Commissioner of Police, MN Anucheth, stated that the system will soon detect 13 types of violations, including wrong-side driving and illegal parking. In 2023, the police booked nearly 9 million cases and collected Rs. 185.1 crore in fines through contactless enforcement.
Beyond enforcement, the AI system improves traffic flow by detecting hazards, optimizing traffic signals, and monitoring vehicle types at junctions. This technology aims to reduce congestion and enhance road safety in Bengaluru, making it a model for smart city innovation.
