NASA faces challenges in bringing back astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore due to spacesuit incompatibility with SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft
Astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) recently received a special delivery of fresh fruit, a rare treat in space. NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick shared a video of himself enjoying a wedge of orange, with Indian-origin Sunita Williams visible in the background. The fruit arrived via Russian Progress cargo spacecraft.
Fresh fruit is a luxury in space, where most food is processed and packed. The cargo spacecraft brought tons of supplies, including food, fuel, and other essentials. However, NASA is facing challenges in bringing back astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been stuck in space for over 60 days.
The main issue is the incompatibility of Boeing spacesuits with SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft. NASA is exploring options to return the astronauts safely, potentially using SpaceX’s help. If the astronauts return in February 2025, NASA will have time to send appropriate spacesuits. Until then, the astronauts will have to wait, enjoying rare treats like fresh fruit when they can.
