Change effective October 1, with India leadership team reporting to Kumar
Amazon India has announced the appointment of Samir Kumar as its new Country Manager. Kumar, who joined Amazon in 1999, was part of the original team that launched Amazon in India in 2013. As Country Manager, Kumar will lead Amazon’s India business, as well as consumer businesses in the Middle East, South Africa, and Turkey.
Kumar’s appointment is effective October 1. Following this change, the India leadership team, including Saurabh Srivastava, Harsh Goyal, Amit Nanda, and Aastha Jain, will report directly to Kumar. This move is seen as a strategic step to strengthen Amazon’s presence in India.
Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s SVP for Emerging Markets, expressed optimism about Kumar’s appointment, stating that India remains a priority market for Amazon. This development comes on the heels of Amazon’s launch of three new fulfillment centers in India, aimed at enhancing its logistics network ahead of the festive season.
The new fulfillment centers, located in Delhi NCR, Guwahati, and Patna, will increase storage space by 1.2 million cubic feet, enabling faster delivery and creating local job opportunities. This expansion underscores Amazon’s commitment to growing its presence in India.
